Hi Everyone, we attended an open obedience trial on Tuesday (melbourne cup day) and in the cataloge there was a KOOLIE in the novice ring!!!! This was a great looking girl by the name of T CH Kool Kassie CCD and was owned by G & P Roberts. Although she didn't place or get a pass she did a really good job, a lot better than some of the dogs in her ring. This girl was a KOOLIE not an assosicate so she must be reg'ed under the sporting reg. Her breeder should be proud!!!

That's really great to hear. My 1st Koolie (reg associate back then) managed to get me 1 pass to CDX. My current dog has been trialled very sparingly (no time at moment - studied last year to become a Div 2 nurse & this year working lots). Got his first pass in Novice under TJ at Sunbury 2 years ago. Has only trialled at 2 other trails and just missed out, but was told to keep going with him as he is really good. Will have to get back to it soon, cause I need the relaxation. Will also have to start training Amber more seriously. Need to train Bryce up to the new standard for Novice tho.

I am starting to train my girl up to the new CCD level. You don't have to do it but I have never trialed before so it will be good for me. She is well past the level I fell but it will be good practise. I was suprised that the low level of obedience at this trial, dogs in UD leaving rings, running around on their stays etc. I have learnt a very good lesson from this trial though. You can not get your three title passed from the same judge has to be for two seperate judge. Just ask Gunyah about her three passes under the same judge so therefore NO title!!!!

My girls are both ass. dogs and I have just reg'ed them as Gunyah KelliMaude and Gunyah LibbyLou, not bad for cross breeds I think!!!!

Bryce is on the Working Register and Amber isn't yet registered with the VCA, keep saying I will do it but haven't bothered yet and she is 2 years old. Maybe when I renew my membership with the VCA might do it then. Now that I am working again might have more funds to do it, have noticed the fees have gone up yet again.

I know, no wonder the VCA, or should I say Dogs Victoria, have $4 million in the bank!!! But what can you do if you want to compete!!! There is no other choice!!!!.

I think we need some wonderful person/ppl to do for obedience what Steve Drinkwater and Cathy Slot did for agility when they started ADAA - start a vibrant new system of training and trialling where reward-based training is the norm and the community is warm and welcoming. And we pay attention to what is going on in the sport overseas and be prepared to change and move with the times. (Not to say everyone in ANKC trialling isn't, of course - just talk to someone who's been to a Mary Ray clinic! <g>)

I don't very often watch CCCQ agility trials, but I'm stuck when I do by how many (not all) of the triallers are so focussed on 'control' - there is so much less flow and joy in the way their dogs work.

But that'd be a big job.

I agree, I also train my girls with a group down here called Australian Dog Training that works on reward and positive training with a focus of getting a good dog not just a robot that is good in a ring but a bugger out of it. I have found it great with my younger dog Libby as she has fear agression issues with other dogs. She had no hope with the old VCA way but it a better dog now after beining at ADT for a while.

Did you start her at a VCA club? Some clubs are so wonderful, but some are in the dark ages, imho. I keep joining and then not going to mine, because I get so frustrated. They are heading in the right direction, their hearts, imo, are in right place, but what they say and teach is so theoretically flawed a lot of time I just want to take over.

But I do feel sorry for anyone who has me in a training class - I usually think I know better than the instructor rolleyes.gif .

you are both lucky the closests training to me is 75 to 80 mins away so i have been thinking of starting a basic obedience class out here just so i can get to meet some people and get my ass back into training again. but i don't think the farmers will be interested
RachelleBuck
I am sure you can make something up to get them interested!!! I can walk from my house to our club (about a 20 mins walk) but I CBF'ed walking so car it is!!!
