It has rained a lot in the hills, although it didn't rain a great deal here, and the local stream has flooded the paddocks across the road from me, and has come up so far on the high tide that it's 500mm deep on the road at the bottom of my property!
Pretty spectacular. I was just talking to Old Man Campbell, who we brought the pink palace from, and he says he's never seen it this high. He's farmed around here for a very long time.

Fortunately I'm on the highway side but the house next door has no access, at the moment, and neither does the beach community.

From my gate about 6.30pm

They wisely decided not to drive up their drive, and got someone in a 4WD to come get them!

Someone game enough to drive through on the road outside my place at 7.00pm.

By 8.00pm, no one but big trucks was going thorough. That's my hedge you can see on the left.

Wow, I hope this is not a normal occurance for you...
royalla
just send a little bit of that water to Tara for me, the sheep would love some nice green grass when they get there.
dandybrush
wow thats heaps of water!!

looks pretty scary, you didnt risk the conditions did you?
Penny Nalder
I hope so too Jackie, but at least I'm on the right side of it. It won't get as high as the house, because I'm on a wee hill. Was quite entertaining watching people stop and decide if they could go through. One guy got out, waded all the way across, the waited while 3 other people drove through, then finally plucked up courage to go through himself. Another came around the corner at a rate of knots, and hit it so fast water fountained up way higher than his car, then continued fast through the rest. *****ing idiot.

No Dandybrush, I wasn't about to do the same! not unless I had a 4WD, which I don't.

Hey Royalla, are you moved in at Tara yet?
If not, when are you moving in?
Ceejay
That is a lot of water. You always get idiots with water, it seems to bring them out of the wood work. At least you are high and dry.

We have had rain here too (doing a happy bum wiggle dance) have had 172.6mm in two days. When it rains, it rains. Best Christmas present ever, all my gardens are fine and still there. Gave us a chance to watch the water flow and figure where and how to put the other gardens. You can actually watch the grass grow.

dandybrush
yes its amazing to see the brown grass suddenly green again!!
Bluedog
Wow Penny - that's a lot of rain!!! How're he dogs coping with it o wet? Actually how're you coping with wet dogs? lol When we had the big storm in 07 I had to drive through lots of places with water on the road. I would wait until the car in front was through in case they stalled or the water was really deep. The number of d*%&heads who honked and pulled round me and ploughed through because they couldn't wait, they just have no idea!

We've had three days of pretty solid rain, which seems to have finally eased up tonight. Lots of fun to work in at the kennels - NOT!! They just put new fill into the holes dug by dogs and discovered that it is clay based. You should have seen me on Boxing Day, just about head to toe mud, one dog in particular just loves to jump on you. Plus falling over trying to stop a dogfight, didn't help. Told my OH I'd taken up mud wrestling!
Ceejay
Bluedog I think that is every man's wish, for their partners to take up mud wrestling. lol. Imagine what it will do to your complexion especially clay. People pay top dollar for that.

I have towels down near the dog entry, along the tiles so by the time they hit the vinyl, their paws should not be as muddy. Is that wishful thinking? It is still raining. Makes you appreciate the rain when it has been missing out of ones life for over 6 months.
treen
They are great photos Penny. Its amazing how all of a sudden things can get so flooded.
Wonder how long it will take to disappear and you can have your road back.
Penny Nalder
Oh it was gone in about 3 hours Treen, when the tide went out, it drained, but rained like buggery early this morning, so the paddock is flooded again. Not the road when I went home from work, but I think it had been there again too. Actually I'm sure it had, because someone abandoned their car by my letterbox. and there was another one on the other side of the road.
There's now a big area of paddock further up the road underwater too, I've never seen that flood before!

Does this explain my pre-occupation with rain, considering it has been well below average or missing for 12 years now?
Penny you may get more soon as the leftovers of cyclone Lawrence is hanging around the east coast here and will probably meander on over soon as well. I was quite excited for a couple of days when the weather maps showed him stalling over north eastern Victoria and southern NSW where all that rain would have been over our storage dams but he sort of took a left hand turn instead. Back to a dust bowl here again.
dandybrush
looks like its going to be raining in qld for a while, the weather on the news last night all i saw was a massive rain cloud
Ceejay
Sil if I could send some your way I would and yes I can understand your preoccupation with the weather!! Yes it is still wet here, the sun has come out this morning, and we have had showers/downpours in between. The grass is looking very green. And at night the frogs have started their own symphony, with boks, needeeps, croaks and bellows. We had this tiny tiny frog amongst the pot plants, the noise emitting out of him was deafening. Oh and the cat got flushed out of the drain this morning. LOL.
Silhouette
Just love those frog songs! We are reduced to one tree frog who lives in my Elk Horn fern and gives a couple of "knee deeps" every now and then when I water(Penny needs one of these stationed at the water over the road then people can ask him "how deep is the water...." {how do you do a sick chuckle in internet type??}).
Penny Nalder
Dunno what kind of frog that is, but there are plenty of frogs in the swamp over from my place, not very loud yet, maybe when the weather warms up. We had a really cold front go through last night!
Silhouette
Well there you go, we had 16ml (I know it's not a lot compared to up north but hey we ARE desperate) of rain last night in a good old whiz bang thunderstorm! Great for our lucerne patch!! A bit of good old QLD weather now though - hot and humid but the grass grows.
micknmol
Thats some serious water. Glad you are okay.
treen
Hey Silhouette, did you get more thunderstorms? They seem to have come from the south and headed north.

We have had two now... New years eve and New years day. Got a fair bit of rain which was nice... garden and grass was starting to look a bit worse for wear.

Looks like Echuca is going to have a hot week next week... we are heading up to stay in a Gypsy Wagon at Echuca Gardens for 3 nights and its dog friendly which is a super bonus!! Holiday break for us and the hounds :-)

dandybrush
that sounds awesome treen, raz would love to come on a holiday with us :)

glad ur grass is greening up :)
Penny Nalder
Ha Ha! I don't go on holiday if the dogs can't come with me! The one notable exception being my trip to Aussie in 08.
In fact my holidays are generally to go to agility shows <grin>
dandybrush
the only holidays i go on atm are the ones my mum pays for...cause i couldnt afford a hol right now anyway, and mum goes to the gold coast and stays in apartments...no dogs in apartments :( oh and when we go overseas he cant come either

one day i play to go on a stayz holiday and take raz up to noosa beach or something, he would love it
treen
we try and holiday with the dogs...camping, pet friendly houses etc but sometimes we get them minded by family so we can have some us time without having to take them everywhere.

once I find a kennel close to home that is good, then i may consider more holidays without them... so far though i haven't found a nice kennel.
royalla
when i go on holidays all my dogs come with me lol.......hey penny you can keep all your green grass now thanks i have plenty and it's raining of course why ???? because i am moving and i can't get out of my drive way if it rains @#@#$%$#@ got to love mother nature she only turns up when you don't want her
dandybrush
i have found a good kennel, one that raz loves and the people are nice, the only issue i find is that apparently he barks all night, and that is the only time they are all locked up separately.

I think i might leave him with Kym next time..if she will have him :) her dogs seem to get on fine with him

I do like to holiday without him occassionally, i think its good for us and him and it means less work for me :) but i do miss him

he hasnt been on one holiday with us yet...i so desperately want to take him somewhere...i'll have to save up :)

haha thats funny royalla :) hope you dont (or didnt) get stranded
royalla
no have not been stuck yet but the only way i could get out yesterday was to go backwards for about 30 feet out into the paddock into the long grass fingers crossed that it does not rain after thursday so we can move the heavy loaded ute cars and van out
Ceejay
It is raining here again. Received 11mm last night and is all dark and cloudy at the moment. I hope it dries out a bit for you Royalla for your big move. I also don't need any grass, our barren backyard has lots of green shoots and our turfed area is all soft and springy....and wet. lol.

Hi Treen
Yes the next night we had another beauty, it bucketed down for a while. The gutters ran over, we sprung a leak around the flue and the dogs were quiet for a change! Went to bed with a sound and light show and the sound of plopp plopp! Had another 21ml! Fantastic so 37ml altogether. Had decided to take a few days off the computer so got out and finally did some gardening while everything was refreshed. It was heaven, even repotted some orchids which were desperate and planted a few veggies. BUT now we are heading into a string of 36, 38, 40 40 41 & 43 degree days. Back to reality and hiding out inside. Poor garden will wilt again, but great for our 12 hectares of sorghum.
Bluedog
That's good news Sil. We've had two days of sunshine and there's now a storm brewing. I've almost caught up on the washing but we're due for another 3 days of showers at least I think. Hope they've got the forecast wrong because it means I'll have to work in the rain for the 3rd time in a row!!!
